37. Brian Claunch

Brian Claunch was a wheelchair-bound double-amputee and a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of self-harm, not harm toward others. While in a mental health facility, Claunch demanded a soda and cigarettes, becoming irate in the process. The nurse on duty called Houston police, who arrived and confronted Claunch. Officer Matthew Marin shot Claunch during the incident, believing the man to be armed. In reality, all Claunch had was a ball-point pen.

Marin was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing regarding the shooting of Brian Claunch.
